The primary purpose of this position is to provide Health Care aid at the Wilmington VA Healthcare facility. The position is responsible for delivering a broad array of health care services throughout the Medical Center, and its various locations that provide in patient care, such as but not limited to the living centers. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. To qualify for GS-3 grade level, applicant must have one of the following: Experience: 6 Months of full-time general experience that is related to the duties of Health Aid. Experience must be clearly written on resume. General experience includes: (1) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. General experience examples include: direct patient care activities; ability to observe, perceive, use judgment, show initiative, and pay attention to detail; ability to take and record vital signs and other information; ability to politely and courteously provide customer service and relay information; speaks clearly and effectively to patients and visitors and basic knowledge of infection control in a clinical setting. OR, Education: Successfully completed 1 year of education beyond high school graduation in medical, health, or related fields. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. Must attach transcript. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-3 level. Must possess equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. To calculate, determine your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the 6 months' experience required for GS-3; then determine your education as a percentage of the 1 year of education that meets the requirements for GS-3. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-3.To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Screening of all individuals both staff and Veterans who enter VA facilities that include CBOC/PCC and VAMC. Validates both staff and Veterans temperature before allowing into VA facility. Provides directions and answers general questions while serving as a Wayfinder in the VA facility. Notifies triage Nurse when unable to authorize patient entry into clinical areas and directs patient to waiting area for further triage. Directs traffic as needed and provides vehicle screening-advising drivers where to park. Assists as needed with transferring, and escorting inpatients/residents. Maintains general cleanliness of the waiting and sitting areas. Carries records, reports, laboratory specimens, x-rays, prosthetic equipment and patient prescriptions to designated areas, excluding control substance. Establishes and promotes effective interpersonal relationships and communications with inpatients/residents, families and others. Responds to inpatients/residents' family members', visitors,' and co-workers' requests for assistance promptly and in a friendly cooperative manner. Wears VA name badge above waist at all times. Reports observations of the condition of acute and chronic phase patients such as excessive vomiting, bleeding, type and amount of drainage, skin integrity, patency of airway, etc. Makes follow-up call to patients as assigned.
